Supernatural is a evening TV show that airs on the CW Network at 9:00 pm on Thursday nights, following Vampire Diaries.

We see a terrible happening unfold. A woman named Mary and her husband John, are putting their children to sleep. After a couple hours, Mary wakes up, hearing Sam the baby crying over the baby moniter. She goes in and checks on him, seeing John standing over the crib. Mary walks away to go back to bed when she investigates a flickering lightbulb, and then downstairs to see the TV on. She spots John in the recliner, and rushes back upstairs to confront the stranger standing over her baby. She screams and John wakes up, and goes to see whats the matter. Nothing is wrong and he sees a woken Sam. John is talking to Sam when blood drips down beside Sam's head. John looks up to see Mary on the ceiling, her stomach cut open. She bursts into flames and John is forced to give Sam to Dean, his other son, and tells him to, "take your brother outside as fast as you can" The scene ends with John holding his boys in his arms, sitting on the back of his Impala.
22 years later, we follow a boy named Sam Winchester. A student in Harverd studying law. One night, a man breaks into his house late at night and Sam rumbles with him for a bit. We find out moments later, that this man is Dean Winchester, Sam's older brother. Dean says their dad has gone on a hunting trip and hasen't been home in a few days, which makes Sam listen and follow Dean outside to his car. The boys start talking about hunting.

Sam: I mean come on, you can't just break in, in the middle of the night, and expect me to hit the road with you.
Dean: You're not hearing me Sammy. Dad's missing; I need you to help me find him.
Sam: You remember the poltergeist in Amherst, or the devil's gates in Clifton? He was missing then too, he's always missing and he's always fine.
Dean: Not for this long. Now you gonna come with me or not?
Sam: I'm not.
Dean: Why not?
Sam: I swore I was done hunting for good.
Dean: Come on, it wasn't easy, but it wasn't that bad.
Sam: Yeah? When I told dad when I was scared of the thing in my closet he gave me a .45.
Dean: Well what was he supposed to do?
Sam: I was 9 years old. He was supposed to say "Don't be afraid of the dark."
Dean: Don't be afraid of the dark! You know what's out there!
